Daniel started sculpting during primary school in Chicago and continued during his high school years in Ventura County, California.He worked primarily with stoneware slab constructions and ceramic pottery. In 1978 he began his interest with China after the Terracotta Warriors of Xian were discovered. At University of Calfornia, San Diego (UCSD), Daniel started welding and focused on abstract figurative sculptures. He studied under Italo Scanga, who was a major inspiration until his passing in 2001. After finishing school at UCSD in 1987, Daniel travelled to China for his MFA at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. He studied under Liang Ming Cheng, one of China's prominent contemporary sculptors. Daniel has remained in Guangzhou since 1988. He is currently teaching in the Sculpture Dept. at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. Daniel's first major exhibtion was in April of 2005, at the Guangdong Musuem of Art, Guangzhou, China.Ancient Chinese Bronzes, Stone and Terracotta Figures continue to influence his art.
